Warisan (Exploring Food Heritage) 2019

Displayed at the Pahang Art Museum in Kuantan, Malaysia for the 2019 Heritage Exhibition hosted by the Malaysia Supreme Queen Consort Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.

Food heritage is integral to cultural identity. In many societies, food offers a means to honor ancestors and maintain tradition - particularly in Malaysia where many learn the craft passed down through family trade. People tend to come together over food, especially when the cuisine holds cultural gravitas. Food is naturally inviting and easily flows through boundaries and backgrounds, thus making it the most accessible and relatable tradition that an outsider can experience and understand while traveling. The Warisan series pays homage to three important dishes that transcend cultural lines and unite people while also, in some cases, spark controversy.
